Kid Rock Charges $20 for Summer Tour. Slams Jay-Z and JT.
A few days ago, Kid Rock spoke with Piers Morgan on CNN regarding his new summer tour called ‘Best Night Ever’ - in which all the tickets, including VIP, will be $20. Other amenities will be $4 beer, $20 t-shirts, free coffee and Jimmy Johns. “He also said he hasn’t reduced the length of his show or trimmed the number of employees working on the tour.”
Rock got a lot of backlash from fans complaining they weren’t able to afford his tickets which were $100+. As a response, Rock decided to take a paycut from Live Nation in order to accommodate fan’s financial needs. Keep in mind, Kid Rock’s fan base aren’t elitists or tweens, his niche market are blue collar folk with a minimum disposable income. Kid Rock is from/lives in Detroit, an area that has taken a blow from the auto industry. He is aware of what is going on politically and economically in his area and his fans.
When Morgan asked him about the current prices for the “Legends of the Summer” tour featuring Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, which top $250 with fees in cities like Detroit and New York City, the singer-songwriter didn’t hold back.
“It’s garbage. It’s highway robbery,” Kid Rock told Piers. Let me also note that Rock is working in conjunction with CEO Live Nation Michael Rapino. Live Nation is notorious for its high ticket prices ie: JT/Jay-Z. Do you think Live Nation will sway other big artists to take pay cuts in order to lower ticket prices if this tour is successful? Do you think Kid Rock’s new model will be successful? Do you feel that other artists will follow this example in the near future? Can you think of one of your favorite artists that you wish would lower ticket prices?
